Palapa D - Indonesia Satellite

This satellite, operated by PT. Indosat Tbk and built by Thales Alenia Space will replace PALAPA C2 satellite at the 113° East orbital position. This satellite is based on the Spacebus 4000B3 platform and has 35 C-band and 5 Ku-band transponders that will enable good coverage of Indonesia, ASEAN countries, Asian countries, Middle East and Australia. The cost of building and launching PALAPA D, which will serve TV broadcasters, VSAT providers and corporate customers while also providing backbone support for Indosat’s cellular, fixed voice and fixed data services, is about $250 million. PALAPA D satellite has a launch mass of 4.1 tons, a payload power of 6.4 kW and a service lifetime of 15 years.

  1. Congratulation for Thales Alenia Space France for finishing this satellite product. I hope Palapa D really could operate during specified designed time 15 years, with good control of its qualities. I hope the launch would be prepared well also, and successful. Since first launch of Palapa A in 1976 from Cape Caneveral with Delta rocket, existence of Palapa satellites have really improved Indonesia analog and data telecommunication capability, bring out important informations: education, business, televisions, internet, telephone to whole Indonesia, and South East Asia. So satellite is important tool for us to develop everything.
Like another electronic equipments, satellite needs very well maintenance so it would last long. Please remember, around 2011 and 2012, Sun would have its maximum radiation, dues to 10.7 Sun cycle. Sun high radiation in last maximum peak has destructed several satellites. So we have to think about this possibilities as well. Alright, good luck. Thank You Indosat.

  2. I mean in above post: 10.7 years Sun cycle. Sun radiation varies from time to time, affets Sun temperature, brightness, magnetic field, etc. In Earth, variation of Sun radiation would affect Earth climate and weather, affect Earth temperature, affect Earth magnetic field, affect LaNina and ElNino, affect number of raindrop, etc.. So we have to prepare to avoid bad effects.

  3. thanks for the additional info bro...
